What Is Subtitle Translation?
Turning the dialogue in films, series and video into readable on-screen subtitles.
Subtitle translation means managing constraints of time and space as well as conveying meaning. Line length and the time a subtitle stays on screen are balanced so the viewer can read comfortably – which often makes condensing unavoidable.
The pace of the dialogue, the register of each character and cultural references are handled so that the subtitle sits well with both the audio and the scene. The aim is for the viewer to follow the dialogue without feeling the effort of reading.
