Standard Page (1,000 Characters)
The unit in which translation volume is measured; by common convention one page equals 1,000 characters excluding spaces.
The standard page exists as an objective measure because the visual page layout of documents varies so widely. Whatever the typeface, line spacing and margins in a given document, the convention that 1 page = 1,000 characters (excluding spaces) allows the real volume of text to be calculated consistently.
The unit lets documents in different formats be measured fairly and compared. Worked examples of the calculation are set out in our guide.
