Liaison and Escort Interpreting
Spoken interpreting in which the interpreter accompanies the parties and renders the conversation in both directions.
In liaison interpreting the interpreter works as a bridge between two parties, rendering short passages in both languages as they occur so the dialogue keeps moving. Also called escort interpreting, it rests on personal accompaniment rather than a formal booth.
Business trips, factory visits, trade fairs and one-to-one meetings are the typical settings. Because the interpreter often accompanies the visitor all day, the role involves cultural mediation as well as language.
