Chain of Legalisation
The sequence of certifications through which a document passes, from translation to final validity.
Whether an official document is accepted at home or abroad usually depends not on a single signature but on a series of certifications following one another. These stages typically begin with the sworn translator’s stamp and continue, where needed, with notarisation and then an apostille or consular legalisation.
The order matters: skip a stage or take them out of sequence and the receiving institution may return the document. The correct order is set by the type of document and by what the destination country expects.
