What Is Machine Translation Post-editing (MTPE)?
A specialist translator correcting raw machine output and bringing it to its final form.
MTPE is a hybrid approach in which the speed comes from the machine and the accuracy from a person. The translator compares the output against the source, resolving errors of meaning, inconsistent terminology and problems of fluency, and rebuilding sentences where necessary.
How deep the editing goes depends on the purpose of the text: light editing may suffice for internal correspondence, while a text for publication or official use calls for full and careful revision. In that sense MTPE is the stage where quality is actually secured.
