What this application usually calls for
The final list varies with the institution’s own announcement; the set below is a starting point.
UK ENIC issues no recognition decision; it makes a comparison
There is no central authority in the United Kingdom that grants “recognition” to foreign diplomas. What UK ENIC draws up is a comparison report showing which level in the British system a foreign qualification corresponds to. That report is not a binding recognition decision; universities, employers and professional bodies take it into account but reach the final decision themselves. In practice most universities assess Turkish diplomas against their own criteria anyway and ask for no separate report; the report comes into play mainly in professional applications and in doubtful cases.
This arrangement is what sets an application to the UK apart from one to continental Europe. In Germany or Italy a formal recognition step is a compulsory part of the process, whereas here the real counterpart is the university’s admissions office. On the student visa side, UKVI works from the record of acceptance the university issues, and what it expects by way of documents is defined separately.
Why the documents are asked for
The diploma proves the degree; the academic transcript is what British admissions offices need if they are to work out the mark equivalent. Since there is no direct match between the Turkish marking system and the British classification, the description of the scale carried on the transcript is of critical importance. A student certificate is used for a conditional offer where the candidate is close to graduating. A language proficiency certificate is assessed separately on the admissions side and on the visa side; a certificate the university accepts may not be enough for visa purposes.

The most frequent omission
The most widespread error in the UK is not attaching a statement of accuracy to the translation. Because this country has no sworn translator regime, the assurance is a signed statement declaring the translation complete and correct; with no statement, the origin of the translation is left uncertain. The statement has to carry the translator’s name, contact details and the date. The second frequent problem is that the marking scale on the academic transcript goes untranslated, and without it no mark equivalent can be worked out. The third is realising too late that the language certificate does not meet the condition on the visa side.
Where the translation and the statement belong
The order is a simple one: the original of the document is obtained, the certification step is completed if one is needed, and the document is then translated into English with all its annexes and the statement of accuracy attached. A translation by a translator with professional membership adds confidence, but it is not compulsory. You will find levels of certification document by document on our document page, and the differences in practice between countries in our country guide.
What goes into a statement of accuracy
In the United Kingdom what establishes the validity of a translation is not a stamp but the statement, which is why the content of the statement matters. The elements expected are well settled: a declaration that the translation is a complete and correct translation of the original document, the name and contact details of the translator or the agency, the date on which the translation was made, and a signature. Some institutions also expect a sentence on the translator’s qualifications. The statement is usually presented as a separate page attached to the translation, with the document it belongs to plainly identified.
A second question is which institution expects what. University admissions offices generally find an agency statement sufficient; on visa and status matters, by contrast, expectations can run to more detail. If you are going to use the same document in two different places, a translation prepared to the higher expectation will do for both. Adding a statement after the event usually means putting the translation together again.
- The statement should carry the wording that the translation is complete and correct.
- The translator’s or agency’s details and the date should appear.
- Which document the statement belongs to should be stated plainly.
- Prepare a single set to the highest expectation.
Mark equivalence calls for separate attention in the United Kingdom. There is no direct match between the four-point and hundred-point systems used at Turkish universities and the British classification; admissions offices apply conversion tables of their own. For that conversion to be possible, the description of the scale on the academic transcript, the pass mark, and the graduation average where there is one, must all appear in the translation without omission. Where this information has been left on the reverse side, the file is assessed as incomplete.
Another matter is the reuse of the same document at different stages. Admission, the visa and post-graduation procedures may call for the same documents at different times. Keeping a digital copy of the translation set and of the statement therefore makes having translations done again unnecessary later on. Because some institutions expect currency, the statement being dated may be raised afterwards.
For candidates at the point of graduating, a provisional graduation letter opens the way to a conditional offer; the diploma follows afterwards.
Since application portals can close early, having the documents ready in advance is an advantage. You can look over our pricing page and upload your file to request a quotation.
