Official certifications

Notarisation and apostille in Kastamonu

If we are handling the certification, you need not visit any office in Kastamonu at all. If you would still like to know where each step is completed:

Notarisation

The sworn translator's signature is certified by a notary. The fee is governed by the 2026 Notary Fee Tariff, is the same throughout Türkiye, and is a separate item from the agency's charge.

Apostille — administrative documents

For administrative documents such as civil registry extracts, diplomas and criminal record certificates, the apostille is issued by the Governor's Office of Kastamonu (or by district governor's offices in the districts).

Apostille — judicial documents

For judicial documents such as court judgments, the apostille is issued by the judicial justice commission in centres that have a serious crime court. Not every province has one; where it does not, the matter goes to the centre it is attached to.

Source for the notary fee: Official Gazette 30.12.2025 / 33123 — the official announcement. For the current list of notaries, see the Union of Turkish Notaries.

The volume of translation work coming from Kastamonu is not high, and it is more honest to say so plainly. Industry is thin on the ground, exports are concentrated in a few particular lines, and the population sits below the Türkiye average. In a province like this, sworn translation is not a standing requirement but something turned to when a need arises. And precisely for that reason, when the need does arise there is no room to get it wrong.

The paperwork the forest produces

Forest products are the most distinct item in the province’s economy. Where exports are involved, the product classification, the dimensional and drying data, the documents of origin and the transport papers all need translating. In timber products the international classification terms are long established; rather than rendering them freely, one has to use the naming the industry accepts, or the buyer cannot identify the product at all.

Cultural tourism and private matters

In a province that draws interest for its historic fabric and its natural areas, the promotional texts and terms of business of accommodation providers come in from time to time. The private side is steadier: civil registry and power of attorney matters involving relatives abroad, diplomas and academic transcripts for student applications, and employment certificates for those leaving to work. English and German cover the greater part of these needs.

Translating local names

In texts written for cultural tourism, the thing we debate most is proper names. Translate the names of buildings, of neighbourhoods and localities, of regional dishes and crafts, and they become intelligible to the visitor, but nobody will know them if that visitor asks on the spot. In promotional texts from Kastamonu we therefore prefer to keep the original name and put a short explanation beside it.

The same problem arises in product descriptions. Translating the name of a regional product usually makes the product sound ordinary, when the name itself is what sets it apart. On packaging and in promotional texts, leaving the name as it stands and explaining what is in it is both the accurate route and the more useful one commercially.

Texts with historical and cultural content bring a further problem of context. A period or an event that a Turkish reader can be taken past in a single sentence may need explaining for a foreign reader. Supplying that context without padding the text is the most demanding part of cultural tourism translation, and a skill wholly unlike technical translation.

The same problem meets us in personal documents as well. The names of neighbourhoods, villages and localities appearing in older civil registry and title deed records may have changed over time. Such names are not translated; they are carried over as written in the document. Where the current equivalent is known, though, adding it as a note makes matching easier at the other end.

In forest product exports the position is reversed: there the local name counts for nothing, and what governs is the product’s equivalent in the international classification. Work from Kastamonu therefore sits at two extremes, one calling for the local name to be preserved, the other for wholly standard terminology.

We settle that distinction at the outset according to the type of document: in promotional texts the local name is kept and explained, while in official and commercial documents the standard equivalent governs. The decision is taken at the start of the job, not in the middle of the translation.

Low demand does not mean a narrow service

The difficulty a local office faces in a small province is this: because demand is irregular, it can only work in the two or three languages most often asked for. When an unusual language or a document calling for specialist knowledge comes along, the work goes elsewhere anyway. Because we work from a single centre, a request from Kastamonu reaches the same pool of translators directly. You can see the languages in which we provide sworn translation on the languages page.

There is no branch in Kastamonu, and it is more honest to say so plainly; the translation and the approvals are completed at the office in Ankara. The province is large and its settlement scattered, and getting from a district to the centre and back often takes a whole day, a burden that sending the document online removes entirely. Working from a single centre has a second benefit as well: when an unusual language or a document calling for specialist knowledge comes along, the work does not go elsewhere but reaches the same pool of translators directly.
